Description

I got really jealous of one of my friend’s Puerto Rican gay pride flag and want one of my own. Alas, I found no Wisconsin one so I made one of my own!

This flag was made by me to be used by anyone and edited by any one. If you guys want a flag of your own, feel free to get one made! Don’t sell them for profit. If you can send me pictures, that’ll be swell. . IF I’m missed the ball of forgot to repersent a major group that you feel must be added, speak up.

Fun Wisconsin Flag facts
-Though designed in 1863 because Wisconsin regiments wanted a flag for battlefield, it wasn't until 1913 it was made the official state flag.
- To distinguish it from the many other blue U.S. state flags, Wisconsin's flag was modified in 1979 to add "Wisconsin" and "1848", the year Wisconsin was admitted to the Union.
- The 2001 survey conducted by the North American Vexillological Association ranked Wisconsin's flag among the bottom ten flags in design quality out of the 72 Canadian provincial, U.S. state and U.S. territory flags, placing it 65th out of the 72. Symbols and their Meaning

The People -
These were the hardest. The originals were a sailor and a minor, both white males. The hardest part was covering the broad range of human diversity in two people.
For the sailor, I wanted to keep the neck beard. I mean, our flag has a neck beard—how cool is that? The rope stayed and I added a to show support for the BDSM culture. Mostly because I think leather is pretty snazzy.
The minor hardly changed. The candle is meant to represent not only as person light but as a beacon for others as well.

Cake Slice – Asexual
Cake is better than sex.

Spork – Intersex.
Neither male nor female just as a spork is neither a spoon nor a fork. OR both male and female just as a spork is both a spoon and a fork

Double Headed Battle Axe – Lesbian and feminist strength and self-sufficiency
The symbol was used in ancient Minoan Crete civilization, which sometimes portrayed as having matriarchal tendencies.

Pan - Pansexual
It there is anything better than a pansexual, it’s a punsexual.

Embracing Hands – Romantic and emotional attraction
If there is one thing this flag is about more so than sex, it’s love. Sexuality is used to not only talk about sexual attraction, but romantic/emotional attraction as well.

Calamus – Homoerotic love
Walt Whitman used this represent homoerotic love. The calamus is native to Wisconsin.

Violets – Bisexual Women and Lesbian
Sappho described herself and lover as wearing garlands of violets. Violets Grow in Wisconsin. [link]

Butterflies – Transsexual
Used to symbolize transformation, the butterflies pictured are Wisconsin natives Yellow Swallow Tail and the Blue Karner.

Cornucopia- Prosperity and abundance
The same as the original seal.

13 Pink Triangles- Homosexual honorant
Originally used in Nazi work camps to identify homosexuals and other male sexual deviant prisoners, the pink triangle is still used today to symbolize homosexual prevailing through struggles.
What do you guys think of me using 13 Triangles for the 13 original states? I mostly did it to visually match the original icon of the 13 lead ingots. Does anyone have better ideas?

Badger- Tenacity and Strength
Besides being the state animal, the nickname badger was given to a miner who worked the mines through the harsh Wisconsin winters. The animal is fierce and spunky creature who is always ready for a fight. The original seal’s badger looked more like an offspring of a badger, a beaver, and a woodchuck.

Rainbow – Each color represents a theme. Learn more here: [link]

**** - The date where homosexuals get equal rights.
Conveniently left blank, because the inequity is still strong. [link]
